Smart Works: a charity giving women in need the confidence to succeed

9 June 2023
For International Women's Day 2022, 3S Money is proud to be supporting Smart Works, a charity dedicated to helping unemployed women find employment. Discover how we're helping them achieve their goal to empower women in the newest Heartbeat blog.
Smart Works and 3S Money
‘You only have one chance to make a good first impression’. It’s an old expression, but for women trying to secure a job, it’s a burden that can ring true. Without the right skills, self-belief and clothing, it’s difficult to be confident just when you need it most. If you don’t believe in yourself, why should the interviewer?

It was seeing women struggle at a crucial junction in their life that led Juliet Hughes-Hallett to co-found Smart Works. A charity that helps unemployed women to find employment, Smart Works prepares women for interviews by providing dedicated training, styling advice and high-quality clothing. They aim to empower a woman to feel her best – just when she needs it most.

Driven by the vision of helping more women, Juliet led the charity through a period of significant growth. Having expanded from one centre to eight across the UK, Smart Works helps 5000 women a year to transform their lives. By 2025, the charity aims to double that figure to 10,000, while opening two more centres. Its ultimate ambition? That any women in need of its support should be able to find her way to a Smart Works centre.

Smart Works and 3S Money

3S Money is proud to be supporting Smart Works on and around International Women’s Day this year. We’re working with local London businesses to donate unneeded smart clothing, while our team will be cycling 500 miles to fundraise for the Cycle For Smart Works initiative.

“Smart Works is all about the power of community”, says Isabel Duce, Partnerships Manager at Smart Works. “Thank you to 3S Money employees who are getting involved with Cycle for Smart Works and hosting a clothing drive for us in March. These funds and all-important clothing donations enable us to deliver our transformational service”.

Which items of clothing would be most useful?

“We are always seeking new additions to the wardrobe. Smart Works dresses clients from age 16-68 and stock size to UK4 - UK32. Our goal is to ensure that any women who comes to Smart Works has a number of beautiful interview options to choose from. We want to stock an inclusive wardrobe for every woman who walks through our door, to make her feel her best at a crucial moment.”

And while International Women’s Day is only one day per year, how can the wider community help Smart Works all year round?
